Do you remember the Star Wars Christmas Special from the late 1970s? I believe the celebrated Life Day. I remember asking my brother if people on other planets believed in the same God as us and if Jesus was relevant to them? Did he die for the sins of Wookies, too? Is it weird to have those kind of questions when you are 8 years old?
That's awesome! My daughter asked how old God was the other night. As for wookies or other life forms, I have no idea how to answer such a question. Strictly theologically speaking, I suppose Jesus' work only "counts" for homo sapiens since he was incarnate as a homo sapien. But then again, who knows? We just don't have categories for alien salvation. (Although I wouldn't be shocked if this has been treated in some theological journal.)
CS Lewis' "Space Trilogy" deals with this question a bit. Especially Perelandra.
But hey, Chewbacca is certainly welcome to celebrate Christmas at my house.
O Bearded One, I'm glad you posted that link. I saw that the other day and the memory of that show came back vividly. Until seeing the YouTube confirmation, for many years, I simply thought that I had, perhaps, dreamt about the Holiday Special. Then, I saw the video and remembered the conversation I had with my brother about aliens "believing" in God and whether Jesus was relevant to them, etc. I can tell you, I even remember that I watched it while hanging out at our Pastor's house with his kids one evening close to Christmas.
