Does God Play Dice?
A friend at Duke Divinity School sent me a great quote from Stanely Hauerwas concerning Open Theism. I'm not necessarily endorsing Hauerwas' views, but he is one smart guy. Here it is:
"Open Theism is speculative metaphysics for evangelicals who never learnedhow to think theologically to being with. They could not recognize the doctrine of the Trinity if their lives depended on it. I have no use for OpenTheism."

If you think about it long enough, your "Greatest Action Story Ever Told" comic relief kind of segues nicely into this discussion. I mean, shouldn't God have known the robot was going to come from the future and disrupt the crucifixion? Obvioulsy, that sketch was done by someone who adheres to this notion of Open Theism. I don't know, maybe I'm reaching too far. However, I'm fairly ignorant of this level of sophistication regarding theology and the various debates that rage within. Interesting reading though in the links you have provided.
Brilliant! observation. Open Theism is a hot topic right now. Many are drawn to it because it seeems to deliver a more huggable God, I guess. I understand the premises behind the view, and they aren't without merit, but at the end of the day, I think it falls short.
As the old saying goes -- "When it comes to theology, if it's new, it's probably wrong."
